Four Pillars to a Healthy Lifestyle

I am a firm believer that there are four key pillars to a healthy lifestyle. If you don't focus on health in all these four aspects of your life, you may continuously struggle, as each of the pillars help one another. The four important areas of health that I firmly believe everybody should focus on, are Sleep, Water, Diet and Exercise.

Sleep is so important and often overlooked, it is in fact a bare minimum that we require as humans. So much so that we can actually die of sleep deprivation. We can get by with only a couple hours of sleep, but without a healthy amount of quality sleep, our bodies will not function at their optimum level. It has also been shown that sleep deprivation can lead to dehydration.

Water is the second pillar of health, as it is so important to lubricate your body and stay hydrated. Have you ever gone through a day feeling tired and groggy, when nothing was otherwise 'wrong' with your health? I'm willing to bet that you weren't drinking enough water. That "off" feeling is the first indicator to me that I haven't had enough water in a day, and I certainly can't function at my best when I don't feel my best.

Diet is probably one of the more common areas of life that are associated with health. There are so many different types of diets out there, it can be difficult to figure out what is best for your body. One thing I will always stand by, is that a crash diet is never a good idea: a crash diet is not maintainable in the long run, and while you may lose (possibly a dangerous amount of) weight in a short period of time, chances are it won't stay off. I am also a firm believer that at a most basic level, a whole-food diet is best for everybody, meaning that processed food should be eliminated or at the very least, significantly reduced from the diet.

Exercise is the last pillar of health that I feel is important. Without a minimum level of exercise, our bodies will lose muscle tone, which doesn't just effect our physique, but is important for our health. Cardio activity is so important to keep our heart and lungs healthy. When we walk, run, or participate in other cardio activity on a daily basis, we are working to prevent heart disease - the leading cause of deaths in North America.

I am currently in the process of developing a program that focuses on these four pillars, that will provide you with all of the tools and information you need to live a healthy lifestyle. This will include helpful tips, a meal plan, recipes, workout plan and more. If you would like to be notified when this program goes live, click here to enter your email so you can stay up to date and be the first to know when the Four Pillars to a Healthy Lifestyle Program is available.
